Even when people are brought together to address issues and gaps, the process is always more effective when the approach builds from a position of strength. For instance, if people are meeting to discuss how they can become a more active community, begin by talking about what is already happening to address the issue. Put a map of the community on the wall and give each participant a number of sticky notes. Have them write on each sticky note at least one positive thing that is already happening to make the community active and then apply it to the most appropriate location on the map. Group similar activities, resources, facilities, special events etc and recap them for the group.
